Howdy, World!
Here’s the announce email! I can’t wait!!
HUGE shout-out to James for getting my old ReLoCo back up on it’s feet! You rock my socks!
This year’s focus will be Bugs and Documentation. I’m so stoked to see it start up again, and I sure as hell can’t wait to read about how much work my friends back out in Cleveland did!
Rock on, ya’ll!!

From: James Gifford Date: Wed, 17 Aug 2011 21:16:28 -0400 Heya folks, In an attempt to both increase the “presence” of the LoCo in Cleveland as well as make it a little easier to make sure we don’t have too many people in a venue for an event, I made a meetup.com[1] group for Cleveland - sounds a little weird, but it’s (hopefully) going to make things a little easier (in theory at least - if nothing else it’ll get some people interested).
I will still be announcing things here.
On that note, our next thing (which I’ve been meaning to send out but haven’t until now) is another Ubuntu Hour where we’ll just discuss Ubuntu, Linux in general, and if we want to do something for the Global jam, as well as how often we want to have something happen - we need to get some sort of a regular meeting schedule setup. That will be on Tuesday, August 23rd, at the Shaker LaunchHouse, 3558 Lee Road, Shaker Heights at 7PM until about 8:30 PM or so.
There will be wifi available.
Cheers, James Gifford http://jamesrgifford.com [1] http://www.meetup.com/Cleveland-LUG/
Hello, World,
lp:~locoteams and lp:~locoteams-approved have been changed to a `Delegated’ mode.
What this means for LoCo Teams:
This basically reverts the change to Launchpad that disallows subteams of restricted teams to be Open. You may now reset your LoCo Teams to have a `Open’ membership policy (if you were affected by this change).
By doing this, we removed the ability of either of the two master teams (locoteams, locoteams-approved) to have PPAs, or other restricted “perks” (which we did not use anyway).
Here’s the Launchpad help snippit:
Membership is open, requires approval, and subteams can be open or closed. Any user can be a member of the team via a subteam, but team administrators approve direct memberships. Subteams can be Open, Delegated, Moderated, or Restricted. Delegated is a good choice for managing a large community of contributors. Delegated teams cannot have PPAs.
Thanks, Launchpad hackers!
Howdy!
How are you? Well? Good. I’m well, thanks for asking.
I’ve been working on a tool for the past few months called “lintco”. It’s a nifty tool to help with Ubuntu Local Community teams.
I have no idea ( frankly ) how to handle translations, but I’d like it translatable. Anyone want to send in merge props ( or check the crap I have in there now? )
The code is on it’s Launchpad page.
Thanks, world!
edit: It’s in Python. Forgot to include that.
Hello, World! Got two wikis up and running, as well as a PPA. Testing and bugs welcome ( on this beta! ) w.u.c/LoCoTeams/LoCoLint Much love!
Hello, World! While everyone was at UDS, I had nothing to do. I know, right? I spent my time writing a small tool to help make the LoCo Council’s life easier. It’s called “locolint”, and you can find the code ( and the rest of the goodies ) over at launchpad. What is lint, you ask? Well, I quote from the source of all human knowledge, Wikipedia.
In computer programming, lint was the name originally given to a particular program that flagged some suspicious and non-portable constructs (likely to be bugs) in C language source code. The term is now applied generically to tools that flag suspicious usage in software written in any computer language. The term lint-like behavior is sometimes applied to the process of flagging suspicious language usage. Lint-like tools generally perform static analysis of source code.
Yup, that’s where lintian came from. I digress. Here’s some usage.
tag@loki:~$ lca name-check ubuntu-us-ohio N: ubuntu-us-ohio : is from UNITED STATES . Good. tag@loki:~$ lca name-check ubuntu-alaskia E: ubuntu-alaskia : Has a non ISO code second set id
Nothing against Alaska, other then it’s where one of my friends is, and a non-standard name. Shoutout to AKLUG and AK LoCo!
Sometimes, we have to get in touch with the owner of a team. lca allows a check of the team without logging in with a browser.

Hello, World! OLF Is all wrapped up — Here’s some highlights off of Amber Graner’s camera! Before the comments start coming in, NO! This OLF is was not held over 5 years ago, it’s just a broken camera. Blame Amber!
Check the rest out down on my flickr! Thanks, Amber!
Hello, World In response to my last post, I’ve added a new feature — report-issue. This will let any Launchpad user file a ( private ) bug against a project just for LoCo issues. This will also automatically subscribe the LoCo council, and let us know that it’s a problem. This will be faster then RT, or IRC. This will also log stuff and let us update the issue as we do stuff ( rather then not hearing anything back for a while ). Here’s what a report-issue session looks like:
tag@loki:~$ lca report-issue N: Connecting to Launchpad... N: Identified as Paul Tagliamonte! N: N: OK. I'm going to fetch your teams now, and figure out N: what LoCo team(s) you're on N: N: 0) Ubuntu Iowa LoCo Team ( ubuntu-us-ia ) N: 1) Ubuntu LoCo Council ( ubuntu-lococouncil ) N: 2) Ubuntu North East Ohio ( ubuntu-us-ohio-ne ) N: 3) Ubuntu Ohio LoCo Team ( ubuntu-us-ohio ) N: 4) Ubuntu United States, Massachusetts ( ubuntu-us-ma ) N: N: Which team would you like to file against? N: 3 N: Let's send a report about team `ubuntu-us-ohio' N: N: I'm going to need some info about what this is about N: Just write up what the problem is, treat this like N: an email. To end the comment section put a . on it's own N: line, please. N: The Ubuntu Ohio team is too awesome. It's turning out to be a big issue, the members are too cool, and the contact is one rad dude. You should look into making them less awesome, or we all look bad. Much love, Paul . N: Righto! So, I'm going to file this bug for you. N: Sending now! N: N: N: Alrighty! Issue filed. The LoCo Council has been N: notified of the report. Feel free to email or talk N: with anyone on the LoCo Council. Be sure to mention N: that you have filed LP Bug #671256 N: N: Thanks so much! N:
I’ve marked this bug public, so you can see what the report looks like. Here’s the link to the bug: Bug #671256. Patches welcome! Rock on!
